Dr sci. med. Ivana Božović Spasojević

Dr. Božović-Spasojević is a specialist in Internal Medicine and a subspecialist in Clinical Oncology. She holds the position of Senior Research Associate in oncology and serves as a Clinical Assistant at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Belgrade, where she teaches Clinical Oncology and Radiotherapy. She completed a specialized breast cancer training program at Ulm University in Germany, supported by the European School of Oncology (ESO).
She is an active member of the multidisciplinary tumor board for breast and gynecological cancers at the Institute for Oncology and Radiology of Serbia—the country’s leading oncology institution and its national cancer research center. As a recipient of the prestigious TRANSBIG scholarship, she spent three years conducting doctoral research at the Jules Bordet Institute in Brussels, under the academic umbrella of the Breast International Group (BIG), with support from the European Commission (Framework Programme VII) and the European Cancer Organisation (ECCO). She also worked as a medical advisor in clinical and translational research on breast cancer and innovative therapies within BIG and the Breast Data Centre.
Dr. Božović-Spasojević is the founder of Serbia’s Academic Breast Cancer Research Group and leads the national program on male breast cancer research within the European Organisation for Research and Treatment of Cancer (EORTC). She is also actively involved in fertility preservation and pregnancy planning programs for breast cancer patients, working through a specialized counseling service.
She is a co-author of Serbia’s National Guidelines for Breast Cancer Treatment and co-authored a textbook in Clinical Oncology for medical students at the University of Belgrade. In addition to numerous peer-reviewed publications, she has written a range of educational materials for cancer patients. In 2018, she was selected for the ESMO Leaders Generation Programme organized by the European Society for Medical Oncology (ESMO). She completed the Health Management Academy in Serbia (Methodes doo, FranklinCovey USA) in 2017.
Dr. Božović-Spasojević is a member of the Central Ethics Committee of Serbia and served on the Ministry of Health’s oncology working group from 2015 to 2020. She is also a board member of the National Association of Medical Oncologists of Serbia (UMOS) and currently leads the ESMO working group focused on the care of adolescents and young adults with cancer.
